Two Grapevine High School student athletes competed at the UIL Conference 5A Track and Field State Championship, held May 12 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, where GHS junior Adam Burlison ran away with two state championships in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter events.

Burlison set a new Conference 5A 3,200-meter record with his time of 8:54.47. The previous record of 8:58.56 was set in 2016 by Carter Blunt from Frisco Independence High School. In the 1,600-meters, Burlison ran the third fastest time ever in Conference 5A history with a time of 4:08.64. Burlison was also a member of the GHS 2022 UIL Conference 5A Cross Country State Championship Team.

GHS Assistant Track Coach Rick Miller said, “Adam’s competitive spirit and will to win are special traits. His progression has been incredible considering this is his first year as a full-time distance runner. I look forward to seeing him build on it.”

GHS senior Kylie Himes finished in eighth place in the 3,200 meter event with a time of 11:28.87.

Congratulations to Burlison, Himes, and all of the GCISD student athletes on a successful track and field season!
