Grapevine Middle School is proud to have the AVID Elective class at
all three grade levels. The mission of AVID is to close the achievement
gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a
global society. AVID focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading
and strategies for success that include organization, time management
and study skills.
The AVID course is one in which any student
could benefit. AVID is a campus-wide college readiness support system
that will work hand-in-hand with the core content courses to prepare
students for challenging, rigorous work. In the AVID elective class,
students engage in writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading
strategies to help them master rigorous academic content. High
expectations are paired with strategies for success (such as note
taking, time management, organization and goal setting) and in-class
Socratic-inquiry tutorial sessions so that students excel in advanced
courses and are prepared for the rigors of university work. AVID
students become the model of college readiness, which is a foundation of
the LEAD 2021 strategic plan. Students must apply to be in the AVID
elective class. AVID Site Teams at each campus review student
applications and interview students to determine students who meet the
expectations and would benefit the most from the class. Participation in
AVID is a high honor that any student would want to attain. Students
and parents who are interested in the AVID course should see their
campus counselor for an application.
